Skill sports
Drifting is a branch of motorsport where there is competition for points, not for time or position. Based on a set of requirements , the athletes are judged by judges .

At ACR, drifting along the entire 3.7 km long course has previously been permitted, and often without assessment. From the summer of 2019, restrictions were implemented, and only three curves are now allowed to operate.

The reason is the requirement to ensure optimal conditions for drivers who drive racing and roadracing. ACR is designed, financed and realized as a racing arena, and the track will satisfy requirements from the international federations FIM and FIA. Multiple use is still important, and both drifting, cycling and cross-country skiing are given space

Sticky mass
The problem for racing athletes is the rubber that drifting leaves behind during so-called "burning". When the tires create smoke, the friction has created such a high temperature that the rubber mass that the tire is made of becomes like a sticky putty that adheres to the pores in the asphalt.

The rubber coating that is left on the track reduces the friction in the internationally recognized track deck. It is difficult for drivers in racing and road racing to judge at speed where it is slippery, and driving thus becomes defensive, lap times decrease, and there is poor motorsport

The putty loosens
A few weeks or months after the sticky and putty-like friction rubber has adhered to the track surface, climate and chemistry will cause the rubber to come loose from the asphalt and form so-called "marbles", - balls and strips of rubber.

The rubber settles on the track surface like pebbles, and is a great embarrassment for those who drive conventional track driving, e.g. during Porsche meetings. The organizer receives a message from the drivers about a lot of pebbles on the track, but during inspection there are only rubber residues that have come loose from the asphalt.
Racing tires
In racing and road racing, special racing tires of a softer rubber compound are used than ordinary road tires, so-called slicks. Electric tire heaters are used to strengthen the tires' performance. The heat makes slicks sticky and rubber residue on the track will thus stick to the tires.
This reduces the quality of the patternless racing tires. The drivers therefore choose alternative tracks and lose lap time. Bad lap times affect qualifying and starting positions, and this creates poorer motorsport.

Drifting is, as mentioned, a motor sport that requires skill from the driver. Unfortunately, far too many of the drivers who have used ACR for drifting have not had the necessary skills, and a lot of driving has thus ended up off the track edge.
This has resulted in very costly damage that the course owner is required to repair in order to have the course classified and approved by the international bans. Without a track license, it is not possible to run races on the track.

Drifting 2021
NMK Rana now organizes all drifting at ACR as part of the club's membership activities. As far as possible, the course is run as a member activity every other Tuesday from 16.00 - 20.00.

All operation entails a duty for cleaning afterwards. This is organized by NMK Rana, partly as a splice for a sweeper and as a charity after the drive.
